The question I am most asked is “What’s your favorite thrift store?” This is the equivalent of asking a parent to name their favorite child. I can’t do it. And, where i go completely depends what type of home item I am in the mood to find.

So, below, you will find not my top favorite but my top 10 favorite thrift stores in the DMV.

One quick preface, I live in Northern VA and don’t spend a tremendous amount of time in Maryland so I may be missing the mark big time on where the goodies are.

1) Unique in Silver Spring

10141 New Hampshire Avenue Silver Spring, MD

There is actually another thrift store right next door (it shares an entrance with Unique) so it can be a bit confusing but they are both excellent. I want to give a little heads up about both of the Unique’s I have on this list. They are PACKED with stuff and it isn’t always organized. It can be really overwhelming but I can’t even begin to tell you the deals I have found at both of the locations on this list.

2) Salvation Army Family Center

3304 Kenilworth Ave Hyattsville, MD

The furniture selection here can be amazing. I credit this to the fact that Salvation Army stores will do pick ups so they usually have the better selection for bigger items.

3) Goodwill

2200 S. Dakota Ave, NE Washington, DC

This is Goodwill’s headquarters location with a shop attached to it. The best that I can tell, this is the only Goodwill actually inside the District.

4) St. Alban’s Church Opportunity Shop

3001 Wisconsin Ave, NW Washington DC

Near the Cathedral, this church run and owned thrift store isn’t large but usually has at least one item worth the trip. Usually an impressive collection of silverplate items.

5) Christ Child Opportunity Shop

1427 Wisconsin Ave, NW Washington, DC

Okay, so in complete honesty, this is more of a consignment store and it is not traditional thrift store prices. it is, however, FULL of great treasures. If you are looking for really special pieces for your walls and tables, this is a great source.

6) Look Again Resale

900 King Street, Alexandria, VA

This small thrift store is located in Old Town and full of donations from neighbors. Their prices can be high but I still always make a point to go. I have found they sometimes let an item slip through and don’t realize the value. I also think they have a great book selection.

7) Thrift Store of Virginia

315 Sherwood Hall Lane Alexandria, VA

One of my favorite haunts this bad boy really makes my Grandmillennial heart happy, Lots of older homes surround the area so you can find some really great finds here. Also, I have had excellent luck with bolts of fabric and vintage linens here.

8) Habitat Restore

869 S Pickett Street Alexandria, VA

If you haven’t visited your local Habitat Restore, you are missing out! Full of various types of building supplies, you can find anything from bed frames to marble vanities here. Excellent choice when looking for furniture.

9) Unique - Merrifield

2956 Gallows Road Falls Church, VA

See #1 for my thoughts. If you follow me on Instagram (and you should!!) this is one of my weekly haunts. It is a forever favorite!

10) Clocktower Thrift

2860 Annandale Road Falls Church, VA

I thought long and hard about giving this one up but decided it was too good to keep to myself. Clocktower is small and PACKED to the brim. If you aren’t in the mood to dig around, this is not the place for you. But like Thrift Store of Virginia, this place makes my old lady heart sore. Usually full of great china and entertaining pieces.

Now, I want to know….what are your favorites? What stores did I miss that should be on my list?
